Volunteer Opportunities

Many opportunities abound for volunteers!  The following is a list of ways that you can help.  We also encourage our volunteers to show their support for SafeHouse by coming out to join us at our upcoming events.

Crisis-Line:  Coverage of crisis line 24-hour, seven days a week to provide victims of domestic violence or sexual assault support, counseling, referrals and information.  Volunteer and hot-line training necessary.  Minimum dedication of 8 reliable hours per month.

Office Support:  Thank you cards, filing, other general office duties.

Fundraising/Public Relations:  Solicitation, ticket sales, event planning and event support for upcoming events.

Childcare:  Provide childcare to shelter parents as needed.  Requires background check, TB testing, and references.

Therapeutic Daycare:  Story telling, help with art activities, other aide.  Requires background check, TB testing, and references.

Transportation Aide:  Provide transportation for the pick-up of donated items such as: oversized items like furniture, donated clothing, cell phones, large quantities of food.  Requires valid AL driver's license, good driving record, current automobile and liability insurance.

Shopping:  Aide to help with weekly grocery shopping.

Maintenance:  Painting, yard work, general repairs.

Storage Shed/barn/pantry:  Help to organize, label and arrange incoming donations.

Sexual Assault:  Accept rotating on-call shifts for Shelby Medical Center responding to calls when sexual assault victims arrive.  Provide clothing, toiletries, and information to the victims, as well as support and comfort the victim during hospital exam and police reports.  Requires Sexual Assault training (20-hours), a valid AL driver's license, good driving record, current automobile and liability insurance, background check, TB test, references, and screening process.

Cell Phone:  Collect donated cell phones, package and mail for dollars that come directly to SafeHouse.  Need individuals/group with the ability to distribute flyers/boxes, communicate program, collect and package/mail donated cell phones.

Quarterly we provide a training session for new volunteers.  During this session, you have the opportunity to learn more about SafeHouse, the services we provide, our volunteer opportunities, and training requirements for volunteers.
