"Breaking Free"
Dove Pendant
with hand dyed silk cord is being sold with all proceeds
benefiting SafeHouse. Lora Popwell, local artist and owner
of The Bead Biz, created the pendant as a symbol of peace and
"Breaking Free" from a past struggle. The circle
symbolizes the path that the woman has been on. It's
closed, hopeless, endless. The dove, adapted from
SafeHouse's logo, sits atop the circle, has broken free and is
flying away. The medallion serves as a symbol for breaking
free from anything in one's past. For SafeHouse, the
pendant symbolizes breaking free from a life of violence.

Dove Pendant Craft
Sessions are for interested volunteers, community
citizens, staff, and survivors to come together and work for a
purpose.
The dove crafting sessions
will be held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at The Bead Biz in
Old Town Helena from 6 pm to 8 pm. The address of the Bead
Biz is 3745 Helen Road, and the main entrance is located 2nd
street.
Details below:
This art medium has been used by trauma victims in their
recovery (ie.
Burn victims in Chicago). Lora received training to teach
others how to use the clay medium as part of a recovery process
and has offered to teach others. SafeHouse will begin
producing the pendants (by hand) and continue selling them to
help raise money for services. The pendant is created in a
2 phase process and we will be working on both phases during the
craft sessions.
So, more than the money it will raise, it is an opportunity for
anyone.... staff, volunteers, community people, people who just
like to craft, and survivors to come together for a purpose.
We are scheduling times when people can come for 1 hour or 3
hours to work on the pendants. PLEASE tell anyone that you think
might want to participate.
It is not a time that any client of SafeHouse will share any
information. In fact, no one will know who is a client or
volunteer, or interested party (unless the client shares on
their own).
